Charminar |
No visit to Hyderabad should be undertaken without visiting the grand and majestic centerpiece of the city that is Charminar. Translated roughly as “Four Towers” or “Mosque of the Four Minarets”, the Charminar is also called by some as the Arc de Triomphe of the East and is one of the most important monuments of Hyderabad.

Golconda Fort |
Golconda (sometimes spelled as Golkonda) Fort was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Golconda which flourished in the 14th to 16th century. It is situated 11 kilometers from Hyderabad, the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. With walls ranging from 17 to 34 feet broken by 87 semi-circular bastions, some reaching 60 feet in height, and built on a granite hill that is 400 feet high, it remains one of India’s most magnificent fortress complexes
Sometimes, there are places that are relative unknowns that are just as awesome and breathtaking as those that get plastered all over the news and tourist sites. That is why when someone goes on a vacation to some foreign place, an itinerary set by a travel agency or tourist company isn’t always the best choice. There is still much to be said about discovering less well-known attractions in out-of-the-way places; it harkens back to the time when there was magic in discovering something that is relatively low profiled. Case in point: Bhongir Fort in the municipality of Bhongir, in Hyderabad
If the United States has Universal Studios, then India has Ramoji Film City, the world’s largest integrated film studio complex. Spread over 2,000 acres of land studded with hills and lakes, it is India’s filmmakers’ first choice when it comes to making their films as it is essentially an unlimited area of creativity for any major or minor film production. Every facility a filmmaker could ever want can already be found there: 50 studio floors, support systems, high-tech laboratories, outdoor locations, up-to-date technology, greenery, and the wonderful hillscapes
At the heart of Hyderabad’s technological progress juggernaut is the cybercity called HITEC City. The name stands for Hyderabad Information Technology Engineering Consultancy City and it provides a stark contrast to the historically-laden monuments and sites present in Hyderabad. The formation and birth of the HITEC City is the consummation of a state’s vision of becoming a contender in the information technology boom, largely reminiscent of Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah’s dreams when he started building Hyderabad itself
About 25 to 30 kilometers from Hyderabad is Chilkur, a sleepy, unassuming village that is pretty much like any other rural village in the region. However, it has become one of the more important pilgrimage sites in the state of Andhra Pradesh. This is because Chilkur is the site of one of the more popular temples in Hyderabad, the Chilkur Balaji temple. It is also known as the Visa Balaji temple because it is particularly popular with devotees who want to get visas for going overseas. It is not uncommon to see a lot of young people paying their respects to the temple

Hussain Sagar Lake |
Hussain Sagar Lake. Hussain Sagar is arguably Hyderabad’s most famous and historic lake. It was built in 1562 by the revered sufi saint Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali to meet the water and irrigation needs of Hyderabad. In 1992, a large monolithic statue of Gautama Buddha was erected in the middle of the lake, and is widely considered to be one of the largest statues in the world.
The lake holds the distinction of connecting the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to each other, by virtue of the Tank Bund. The bund as it stands today is a complex of temples, statues, and parks and has become the capital’s administrative hub. Parallel to the Tank Bund is the Lower Tank Bund road that was primarily built to ease traffic congestion. Now, it has also become the axis of print media activity.
The best time to visit the lake is from October to March.

Birla Science Musuem |
The Birla Science Museum is the second phase of the B.M. Birla Science Center, one of India’s most prestigious institutions for dissemination and promotion of science to the public. Together with the Birla Planetarium and the Birla Dinosaurium, the Birla Science Museum was created to educate the masses about the fundamentals of science in a manner that is interactive, exciting, and fresh — a far cry from just reading about it in textbooks and journals
ITIR project in Hyderabad
Centre Approves ITIR Project in Hyderabad
The Union government has given in-principle approval for the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) for development of self-contained integrated knowledge clusters for growth of IT and electronic hardware manufacturing in 50,000 acres in and around Hyderabad.
Two years after the State government sent its proposal for ITIR and clarified to the observations made by ministries concerned such as InformationTechnology, Commerce, Industries, Railways, Finance and Environment etc., the high-powered committee headed by Cabinet Secretary recommended in-principle approval to the APITIR project last month.
MASSIVE EXPANSION
Disclosing this here on Saturday, IT Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that the proposed ITIR would facilitate massive expansion of IT and ITES sector, with a potential to propel growth of IT exports from the present Rs. 50,000 crore to Rs. 2.35 lakh crore.
The ITIR project would comprise areas such as Cyberabad Development Authority including Gachibowli and Madhapur which have emerged as IT hubs, Hyderabad Airport Development Authority (HADA) including Mamidipalli, Raviryal, Adibatla and Maheswaram, Uppal and Pocharam.
The built up area in the ITIR comprising SEZs, industrial parks, free trade zones, residential areas, would increase from the present 40 million sft to 130 million sft. The direct employment is expected to grow five times from 3 lakh to 15 lakh and indirect employment to about 50 lakh people. The electronic hardware manufacturing is also expected to go up from Rs. 6,000 crore to Rs. 80,000 crore.
An estimated Rs. 13,000 crore spread over a period of 25 years would be required for development of internal infrastructure while external infrastructure development estimated to cost Rs. 2,189 crore would be met through financial allocations from the Centre under viability gap fund scheme.
The internal infrastructure expenditure would be borne by the State, Mr. Ponnala said.
IT Developments at Gachibowli,Hyderabad
Gachibowli, Hyderabad: IT developments a great attraction
The Gachibowli submarket comprises Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Manikonda, Raidurg and surrounding locations. It is the next popular IT/ ITeS (information technology enabled services) destination of Hyderabad after Hitec City.
Gachibowli is six km from Hitech City and mostly houses ITcampus developments and IT special economic zone (SEZ) developments. The IT-related developments in Gachibowli began with CMC setting up its campus in the late 1990s and Microsoft opening its first campus in India in the early part of the previous decade. The IT-related developments increased their footprint in this submarket further as Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corp allotted land to financial companies at the financial district of Nanakramguda, which was planned to attract banking and finance companies to Hyderabad.
Companies such as ICICI, Franklin Templeton, UBS (now Cognizant), Institute of Chartered Accountants, Andhra Bank, Andhra Pradesh State Financial Corp and APIDC Venture Capital are present in the financial district. As the connectivity of Gachibowli started improving, the submarket witnessed IT campus and IT SEZ developments, followed by residential and hotel development.
The IT developments in Gachibowli have attracted various national and local developers to develop their residential projects in this submarket. Larsen and Toubro, Mantri Developers, Emaar MGF, Ramky Group, Phoenix Group, NCC, Jayabheri Group and Trendset Builders have launched residential projects in Gachibowli. Such projects have also been launched within SEZs such as Lanco Hills and Divyasree Orion.
Retail in Gachibowli is currently restricted to high streets. Retailers such as Reliance, Ratnadeep, Cafe Coffee Day, Subway, Pizza Corner have opened their stores on the Old Mumbai Highway. Inorbit Mall at Hitec City is six km from the submarket. Lanco's Mega Mall within the Lanco Hills SEZ is launched and is expected to be completed in three years.
While Hyderabad city was struggling to see any increase in residential sales due to political instability in 2010, a few projects such as Mantri Celestia,Manjeera Diamond Towers, Ramky Towers and NCC Residency in Gachibowli continued to witness decent sales due to the location and optimal pricing. Currently, residential prices are on the rise in this submarket and there are new projects being proposed at locations closer to Gachibowli such as Gopanpally, Tellapur and Nallagantla, etc.
